Nick realised the recording side, working together with Pete Jones (Morrissey) and Christian Martin (X-Legged Sally) on the mix. The team is completed by Audrey Riley (Suede, Blur, Soft Cell, Marc Almond) and Caroline Lavelle (Peter Gabriel) on cello.

The album opens with the poem 'The Bright Ring of the Day' recited by Brian O'Donnelly, publican of the Irish pub 'The Plume of Feathers', where the musicians generally retired at the end of the day.

To celebrate the completion of the recording, Perry gave a concert in the pub, joined by Deep Season - a relationship that followed on with a joint tour of Belgium, France and Switzerland.

Another noteworthy sequel is that, ever since the Hampshire studio date, Perry regularly returns to Crondall with his famous 'Ettekeys' team to slog out a few spirited matches against the 'Marvin 11' - the regional club the group met while recording 'The Bright Ring of the Day'.
